Deep Pressure vs Deep Tissue
Some people often interchange "deep pressure" and "deep tissue" when referring to their expectations for a massage session. A deep-pressure massage isn't the same as a deep-tissue massage.
A true deep-tissue massage is not about the amount of pressure given; it's about working with the muscles and the soft tissues, slowly moving from the superficial muscles to the deeper muscles underneath. You should be able to breathe and relax during a deep-tissue massage; any feelings of discomfort should be related to muscle tension releasing. Tensing up during a deep-tissue massage makes it difficult to properly work the muscles since I would be working against the muscles instead of with them.
I usually back off when I notice any sudden tension since it can cause more harm than good to you and me. Results come from relaxation.
If you're looking for a massage with excessive pressure and brute force, Soulfully Relaxing may not be the right place for you.
